Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS)
Amplifying the Voices of Female Peacemakers

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) has an important position in highlighting the roles of women at the forefront of change. To showcase this work so that it does not get lost among academic research, GIWPS needed to present it in a way that is easy to digest and provides opportunity for community engagement.

Women’s leadership is a vital element in preventing conflict and building peace, growing economies, and addressing global threats like climate change and violent extremism. Research shows that investing in women is crucial for equality and parity and for political stability and economic progress. Women’s actions in peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction are vital for peace, stability, and security, while the inclusion of women in the broader economy fuels growth, creates jobs, and advances inclusive prosperity.

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) has an important position in highlighting the roles of women at the forefront of change. GIWPS promotes global peace, stability, and justice by focusing on the key roles women play in preventing conflict, growing economies, addressing global threats, and building sustainable peace.

Showcasing data by storytelling through a unique digital presence

To further its mission, GIWPS developed the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Index to aggregate data from multiple sources and rank more than 150 countries on key, comprehensive measures of women’s wellbeing, inclusion, and justice. To showcase this work so that it does not get lost among academic research, GIWPS needed to present it in a way that is easy to digest and provides an opportunity for community engagement.

Forum One worked closely with the GIWPS team to identify the priorities for a unique digital presence. We designed and developed a new WordPress site for GIWPS to showcase the WPS Index and illuminate the personal stories behind the data. New data visualizations are easy to digest and accessible to audiences.  The custom website also includes a powerful and integrated storytelling component — “Profiles in Peace” — that allows GIWPS to create its own voice on the platform where site visitors can view videos and oral histories from around the globe.

Forum One helped our organization to take a step back and ask the critical questions: what is our mission, who is our audience, how do we want to be known? Their technical wizards then rolled up their sleeves and delivered an engaging new website that reflected our vision. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Forum One helped us through a high stakes website launch—we unveiled the new site, and our Women, Peace and Security Index, at the United Nations—and our web traffic has remained high ever since.
