Barbara's sense of compassion led her to Forum One. She met us while volunteering in the community; when the right opportunity became available, it was apparent that her skills, combined with her determined and nurturing personality, made for an ideal match. She was attracted to Forum One's mission, and we have benefited greatly from her ability to build a harmonious team with lots of synergy.
In her role as managing director, she is responsible for maintaining both the physical and social infrastructure at Forum One. As the backbone of the organization, she manages everything related to Forum One's LLC operations and is also responsible for overseeing all activities related to employee recruitment and retention as well as staff satisfaction. A large part of her position involves planning special events for Forum One staff, especially the annual retreat, a multiday event jam-packed with team-building and organizational planning exercises. The fact that Forum One has been nationally recognized for our positive work environment is a testament to her ability to foster a friendly, enriching company culture that rewards good ideas and puts employees first.
When asked, Barbara admits that what she likes best about her job is recruiting talented staff members and watching them grow and flourish in their new roles. She finds unique ways to keep employees engaged and happy, identifies strategies to expand Forum One's success, and otherwise works behind the scenes to build a thriving organization.
Barbara has lived and traveled from coast to coast, but her passion for New York, where she was born and bred, is ever-present no matter where she rests her head. (It's rumored that she bleeds Yankee-blue, and she doesn't care if she's the only one in the office rooting for the Giants.)
Before joining Forum One, Barbara was director of staffing for Management Information Consulting, Inc., and spent seven years on the West Coast for Turner Construction Company. While there, one of her most satisfying accomplishments was volunteering to build a soccer field for underprivileged children in Los Angeles. Since moving to this area, she has volunteered for many local organizations and serves on the board of directors for First Night Alexandria. She is also an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management, participating in several SHRM focus groups.
Barbara has a B.S. in environmental science and business administration from Long Island University. She loves to garden and spend time on beach -- just seeing the waves is always a great boost.
You may not know: Barbara's favorite iPhone app is her surf report -- no matter where she is, the waves are always close by.
