Global Health Seminar to Present Innovative Online Approaches

Five global health experts will speak about their pioneering online approaches at Forum One Communications' next Web Executive Seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the National Press Club in Washington.

Titled, "Global Health and the Internet: How Can We Save More Lives?" the session will focus on how online communication and collaboration can supplement and extend programs battling malaria, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. It will also illustrate how the internet is used to extend the reach of life-saving information.

The event will feature:

  • Patricia Abbott of the Global Alliance for Nursing and Midwifery, a successful online community of in-Country Midwives.
  • Barry Bunin, who will describe Collaborative Drug Discovery, his company's efforts to help scientists use the internet to archive, mine, and collaborate in their development of new drug candidates for humanitarian markets.
  • Clark Freifeld, co-creator of HealthMap.org, a unique Harvard-MIT partnership which is using Google Maps to track reports of global infectious diseases.
  • Enó Isong of Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. Isong will describe Broadcast HIV Africa, a coalition of pan-African broadcast companies using the internet to coordinate broadcasts of public education announcements and programs.
  • Shannon Raybold of the UN Foundation presenting the success of the Nothing But Nets Campaign a grassroots campaign to help donate anti-malaria bed nets. The campaign's site is a 2007 Webby Award Winner.
