Eurostat Gives Go Ahead to Innovative Funding Mechanism for Immunization
August 2, 2005
The Vaccine Fund has launched IFFIm.com to help scale up immunization for millions of the world's poorest children.
This effort, the International Financing Facility for Immunization (IFFIm.com), is intended to increase present development funding by issuing bonds backed by future aid flows, which would not be possible without this positive Eurostat ruling. The IFFIm could prevent as many as 10 million premature deaths by front-loading investments in childhood immunization and health systems
Through the web site people can learn how IFFIm will help to scale up immunization and introduce new vaccines to millions of the world’s poorest children.

More About IFFIm
The central aim of the International Finance Facility for Immunization (IFFIm) is to save more children's lives and to do so faster, in order to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. By investing the majority of resources upfront or “frontloading,” this innovative funding mechanism will increase significantly the flow of aid to ensure reliable and predictable funding to countries for immunization programs during the years up to 2015. IFFIm is an initiative of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) with the support of the governments of the United Kingdom, France and Sweden.
