Lessons Learned Implementing Collaboration Software in Large and Small Organizations

Panelists: Gary Vaughan, Senior SharePoint Advisor, Office of eDiplomacy, U.S. State Department Joe Pringle, Project Director, Forum One Communications (www.forumone.com) Gary Vaughan will provide a case study on this topic focusing on one solution being implemented at a large organization, Microsoft SharePoint (both 2003 and 2007 versions). He will share lessons learned from SP deployments at various public and private sector organizations, describe key SP functionality, and provide its practical application and cost/benefit analysis. He will discuss the challenge in introducing new (and potentially revolutionary) software into large enterprises, including such issues as network administration, legacy systems and the need to broker diverse stakeholder interests and perspectives. Joe Pringle will discuss other online collaboration and workspace tools that might be applicable to small and medium-sized organizations as well as project teams without dedicated IT staff. He will describe different ways that teams of people interact online with respect to coordinating and managing projects and activities, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different tools to manage documents, coordinate tasks, communicate, and collaborate. *This event is a brownbag – please feel free to bring your lunch.
