On the theme of "beyond the book", we like the approach Andy Goodman is taking to collect research for his forthcoming book Why Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes. Andy is asking NGO staff to complete a survey to help his research for his book, and the first 5000 respondents will get a free copy of the book when it comes out December 2005.
This is a nice approach because: he's using easy online tools to collect his research, he's involving the target audience in the work and getting their feedback early-on, he's building a focus group he can call on to review findings and drafts, and, he's generating early publicity.
Andy's approach is a nice example of what we call "beyond the book" - new approaches to formulate, research, review, distribute, and leverage big publications.
